#day25 #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #MyStory : Did Chemo Work?

 #day25

*diagnosed in 2016. Resharing my story to help spread awareness.
Day 24 had 3 posts which showed the celebration of completing my 6 rounds of intensive chemo. The next step in the process was to get another breast MRI to look at my tumors to see if chemo was effective.
Some doctors advise you to get the cancer removed first and then do chemo. In my case it was advised to do chemo first and then surgery.
One reason I felt comfortable with that plan was because I wanted to be assured that the chemo was actually working. Sometimes the specific "cocktail" is not effective and we can tell that by how tumors respond. If I were to have the cancer removed first I would likely never know if it worked.
The evidence was in the follow-up MRI. It was honestly quite remarkable.
The first image you can clearly see the tumors as they lit up very brightly. The second image looks like it is almost completely gone.
The final step though in knowing if it was gone would come after my pathology results after surgery. The very fact that my MRI showed such a drastic change though was very promising.
I did also have this same scan done after 3 rounds of chemo and it was working but in no way did it look this good. 6 rounds definitely did the trick!
The results came as a huge relief!
