I am gearing up for surgery. My surgery was scheduled for December 12th. As mentioned in previous posts, I chose to go the route that was likely the most challenging route but the one that I wanted. I wanted to have a double mastectomy. I wanted immediate reconstruction. (that means you get the mastectomy and reconstruction all in the same surgery) I did not want implants. I did want a DIEP Flap reconstruction which uses fat and blood vessels from your stomach and uses them for your breast reconstruction. To me that felt like a built in tummy tuck. I needed some sort of silver lining haha!
Leading up to this surgery I needed to prepare for the holidays. I wanted to spend some quality time with the kids because I knew I would be completely out of commission for Christmas.
We did our usual holiday activities plus a few extra special ones. We got our tree together as a family. I took the girls out on a date and let them do some Christmas shopping. We went out to look at Christmas lights per our usual tradition. We had a family dinner out at good ole' Texas Roadhouse and I had a date night with my husband the night before my surgery. Fun little fact, my husband and I went to Bravo for our dinner date and someone spotted us there and covered our dinner anonymously. Those little touches along the way are little drops of blessings that flooded my heart with emotion for the love that was poured out to me and my family. Thank you!!
I had to write up schedules and have the children's care sorted out for the time following after my surgery.
It was a lot. A mother's job doesn't ever end though and my priority was and always has been for them.
I also had to prepare for my own needs, such as easy to wear clothing and shopping for a lift chair that I would sleep on for a few months.
So much went into these few weeks. Every moment was cherished and intentional.
Life was seriously about to change and we had no clue just how much!
