Diagnosed July 2016: A recount of #mystory to help spread awareness.
I have had a stream of questions come in asking for me to go further into what to look for. I wanted to share some of the common things that could indicate something you should look into.
Here are some key signs to check for:
- Changes in Skin Texture: Look for puckering or dimpling resembling an orange peel.
- Lumps and Thickening: Know your normal feel to detect any new lumps or areas of thickness.
- Swelling: Check your armpit and collarbone for swelling, as they contain breast tissue.
- Unusual Pain: Monitor for constant, unexplained breast or armpit pain.
- Nipple Discharge: Be aware of any liquid coming from the nipple without squeezing.
- Sudden Size or Shape Change: Note any unusual or sudden changes in size or shape.
- Nipple Inversion: Look for changes in nipple position or shape.
- Rash or Crusting: Check for irritation, redness, or crusting around the nipple area.
This list is just not inclusive of every possible warning sign but a good start. Not all breast cancer has warning signs. Get your mammograms!!! Early detection might save your life.
In the image below I had dimpling, thickening of the skin and new shape and size on the right side.
